James Loughrey
Engineer

James Loughrey grew up in South Africa and was a drummer in a thrash metal band before landing his first recording gigs. Initially working with a variety of clients including choirs, death metal and zulu traditional music at Bop Recording, a huge studio with SSL, Focusrite and Neve consoles in Bophuthatswana.

He headed to the UK with ambitions for working with bands and found work as a freelance assistant at Metropolis and Eden studios. Still in pursuit of bands James was offered a job at Britannia Row when it was still owned by Pink Floyd and became house engineer when the studio moved to it's new location in Fulham.

At Britannia Row James encountered Page and Plant, Bjork and the Long Pigs among many others. When he went freelance in the late 90's he discovered pop and R&B and worked with the Sugar Babes and most of the Spice Girls, scoring himself a few top 10 hits with Atomic Kitten, Louise and Sophie Ellis-Bextor. He also started mixing 5.1 projects for SACD with Ronan Keating, Manic Street Preachers and Super Furry Animals and films including Psyche-9, Extraordinary Rendition and The Crew.

In the last few years James has become known for working with a new breed of rock bands including Hope of the States and My Vitriol. The last year has seen James mixing in New York for Italian band Hana-B and achieving a no.1 in Beruit with Jad Choueiri's "Funky Arabs" and a No.1 album in Ireland with the late Christie Hennessy.
